Mr. Universe 2009 culminated in a hotly contestious proceedings at Teatro Taino at Barcelo Hotel Premium Punta Cana.

American model Joshua Day 23 years old and 1.88 meters tall bested all other candidates from top 5 countries namely Robinson Tajmuch (Chile and first runner up), Luis Miguel Moreta (Cuba and 2nd runner up), Francisco Allegre (Italy and 3rd runner up) and Mahmud Jan (Afghanistan and 4th runner up).

The semifinalists round include: Josafat Barrera (Spain), Jorge Prosperi (Panama), Assad Haddad Neto (Brazil), Paul Voisard (Canada), Maxime Thomaset (France), Matt Raimo (US Virgin Islands) and Rudy Frias (Isla Saona).

Other minor awards went to Robinson Tajmuch (Chile and Mr. Internet), Vikan Mehandroo (India and Best In National Costume), and Antonio Guerra Galindo (Costa Rica and Mr. Popularity.
